The CAMINA project, developed in a comprehensive way together with the Almería City Council, aimed to break and dismantle urban and social barriers by linking socially and economically segregated neighbourhoods through civic participation and access to culture and heritage. It was selected in the fifth call of the Urban Innovative Action (UIA) of the European Union initiative in 2020.
THE CHALLENGE
Almeria faces social and economic segregation between its neighbourhoods, exacerbated by historic urban barriers that have marginalized certain parts of the urban centre. The city required an intervention that not only addressed physical regeneration but also promoted social inclusion and access to culture and heritage.
THE SOLUTION
In collaboration with the City Council, we designed the CAMINA project, an integrated solution focused on civic participation, cultural development and regeneration of public space. During its implementation, we led the creation of a new cultural narrative to connect neighbourhoods, designed new cultural routes to connect the neighbourhoods to residents with the rest of Almeria and developed the methodology of civic-cultural laboratories for the co-creation and celebration of cultural activities. Additionally, we supported the project’s execution and impact assessment
