Design and development of the Toledo’s 2030 Urban Agenda
The Toledo City Council, as part of the pilot projects of the Spanish Urban Agenda (AUE), was supported by Khora to structure its urban agenda, strengthening its recent projects and addressing urban challenges aligned with the Spanish Urban Agenda and funding opportunities.
THE CHALLENGE
Toledo received funding to carry out its urban agenda that highlights the projects the City Council has been executing in recent years, but also for the detection and development of urban challenges and identification of new actions related to Specific Objectives 1 – plan land use and use it more rationally, preserve and protect it— and 2 —avoid urban sprawl and revitalize existing cities— of the AUE and thus define new future projects that complete a coherent scenario with the European Urban Agenda.
THE SOLUTION
At Khora, we conducted research and fieldwork, detecting the main challenges faced by Toledo regarding territorial and urban development. Furthermore, through an action sheet, initiatives have been identified that act on the challenges detected and, that cover the lines of action of the AUE. These initiatives consist of a plan to promote green infrastructure and biodiversity, a plan for the integration of transport infrastructure into the street network on an urban scale, neighbourhood plans for reactivation of street-level spaces to promote the increase in building density, lighting and universal accessibility, urban furniture and a recovery plan for abandoned plots and degraded public spaces.
