Innovative urban action to promote housing access, regeneration of the centre and improvement of autonomy of the elderly in Fuenlabrada: SHARE

Together with Fuenlabrada City Council, we co-designed the SHARE Project (Sustainable Housing Accommodation for a Regenerative Exchange), selected within the first call of the European Urban Initiative (EUI) of New European Bauhaus, as Innovative Urban Action in 2023.

THE CHALLENGE

Fuenlabrada faces deterioration of its urban centre, difficulties in housing access for young people, an ageing population living in buildings with limited accessibility and increased demand for services for the elderly in pre-dependence situations. We worked with the Fuenlabrada City Council to bring all these points together and design a creative idea capable of addressing all these challenges.

THE SOLUTION

SHARE emerged from the co-design with the City Council, an integrated solution that seeks to create accessible and quality living environments through community revitalization and housing exchange, focusing on elderly people who suffer from unwanted loneliness and young people struggling to access housing. This project includes the rehabilitation of a disused public building to revitalize the city centre, following the principles of sustainability, inclusiveness and aesthetics of the New European Bauhaus, alongside revitalizing the city centre and creating community services and spaces for intergenerational collaboration between youth and seniors. Khora is part of the partnership that will implement this project from 2024 to 2028.
