Knowledge transfer and multidisciplinary co-creation in the design of the UIA of Orihuela
Design of the CORE project as an Urban Innovative Action (UIA) which aims to revitalize Orihuela’s historic centre and create an ecosystem of creative and cultural industries through a training program focused on the development of innovative business models.
THE CHALLENGE
At the time of undertaking the project, one of Orihuela’s challenges was its reliance on non-competitive and poorly diversified economic sectors, mainly tourism and agri-food, with limited job creation and talent retention. Additionally, it had a deteriorated and abandoned historic centre, with a concentration of inhabitants who are at risk of exclusion. At the same time, Orihuela had a significant number of professionals in creative and cultural industries.
THE SOLUTION
At Khora, we supported the Orihuela City Council in the design of the CORE project, which included forming a partnership with diverse profiles to ensure its successful implementation. The initiative proposed regenerating the urban core and demonstrating the importance and opportunities of the orange economy to the community, while providing young people in Orihuela with collaborative spaces for the multidisciplinary co-creation of business ideas centred around the creative and cultural industries.
