The Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD) of Mogán: “Sea, Mountain and Sky” is an ambitious project elaborated to revitalize and transform Mogán, one of the most emblematic tourist destinations in the Canary Islands. This plan, co-financed through the Next Generation EU funds within the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), aims to improve mobility, sustainable management of natural resources, and promote responsible tourism that respects the environment and local culture.

THE CHALLENGE

Mogán faces the challenge of revitalizing its tourism model, now reaching maturity after decades of rapid and sustained growth. The municipality struggles with issues such as coastal overcrowding, rural depopulation and inefficient management of its natural and energy resources. In addition, tourism relies almost entirely on the coastal strip, while the mountainous interior, with significant potential for agrotourism and active tourism, remains largely untapped.

THE SOLUTION

The PSTD of Mogán proposes a profound transformation of its tourism model by diversifying tourist activities to decongest saturated areas, improve mobility and better connect Mogan’s natural, cultural and tourism resources. Khora provides comprehensive support to the Mogán City Council extending beyond the management and reporting of European funds. By connecting local needs to practical urban solutions, Khora contributes to conceptualizing operations and drafting technical requirements to streamline and optimize the PSTD’s implementation, ensuring the effective achievement of milestones and objectives.
