The Canary Green project is an initiative developed by the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) that seeks to position the Canary Islands as a leading tourist destination in sustainability. Based on advanced technologies, work is being done on decarbonization, improving the quality of life of residents and preserving the natural environment. Canary Green integrates an innovative approach that engages both tourists and residents to encourage responsible and environmentally friendly practices.

THE CHALLENGE

The Canary Islands face the challenge of managing mass tourism, which poses significant environmental and social impact in the region. This initiative seeks to reduce the environmental impact of tourism through the implementation of advanced technological solutions, with a focus on decarbonization and enhancing the quality of life of residents. The AMTC of the Canary Islands requires establishing coordination structures among the involved municipalities for designing innovative solutions (co-design of the solution, testing and deployment); designing a management structure to facilitate the simultaneous implementation of technological solutions across the association’s thirteen municipalities; and compliance with the strict milestones and objectives associated with European funding (PRTR).

THE SOLUTION

Khora supports the PSTD Management in monitoring, implementing and justifying the Canary Green project. With a multidisciplinary team, Khora is responsible for strategic planning and coordination between the different local actors, ensuring compliance with the milestones established by the European Union. Khora’s contribution to the Canary Green project extends beyond technical consultancy. Their in-depth knowledge of the Canary Islands territory and experience implementing projects with multiple actors and technologically similar projects have fostered collaboration among stakeholders and supported the creation of a local ecosystem for smart and sustainable tourism.
