The City Council of Don Benito is a beneficiary from the PRTR to diversify the commercial areas of the city, combining urban, technological and sustainability actions, and has the support of Khora from the definition of the project to the support in the execution.

THE CHALLENGE

Commerce in Don Benito suffers from excessive concentration within a single 1.5 km open commercial area. While this area is among the most dynamic and thriving in the region, employing over a thousand people across various establishments, its concentration generates numerous urban and socioeconomic risks including noise pollution, urban environmental degradation, rising rental prices, traffic congestion, insufficient parking and overburdened municipal services. These issues jeopardize neighbours’ quality life and visitors’ experience; moreover, merchants are beginning to perceive a decline in the area appeal, due to this overcrowding, threatening long-term sustainability of their businesses.

THE SOLUTION

Khora assists Don Benito City Council in preparing a report for the PRTR funding call to support the markets, urban commercial areas, non-sedentary commerce and short marketing channels in 2022, combining integrated actions in digitalization, urban regeneration, sustainability and commercial revitalization, totalling € 1,772,607.00 to be implemented efficiently while fostering collaboration across various municipal areas. Through technical assistance, we support the City Council during the implementation phase. We consolidate actions into large projects, streamlining timelines and enhancing public procurement processes. With an integrated approach, we engage various areas of City Council in joint planning sessions, maximizing impact and fostering collaboration. We collaborate with economic operators to optimize contracting processes and ensure the proper management of European funds. Additionally, we provide training for municipality staff and establish a document repository to facilitate smooth management, ensuring actions are tailored to local needs.
