Don Benito Urban Agenda 2030: establishing it as a leading agro-industrial hub in Extremadura.

In 2024, Khora collaborated with Don Benito City Council to create its 2030 Urban Agenda, an essential plan for long-term strategic development and efficient funding expending. The document aligns with the principles of the Spanish Urban Agenda and addresses the city’s challenges in outlining key projects to drive sustainable growth. Khora contributed to drafting the diagnosis, facilitating citizen participation and identifying actions and key projects to guide Don Benito in achieving its 2030 vision.

THE CHALLENGE

Don Benito faces significant challenges derived from its urban and territorial configuration. One of the main priorities include revitalizing the urban fabric, improving land use integration, and addressing urban sprawl. In addition, the municipality also needs to implement actions to enhance sustainable resource management, increase resilience to climate change, and strengthen social cohesion. Don Benito must strengthen its urban economy to generate employment, leveraging its capacity to attract trade and ensuring efficient connectivity between the urban centre and rural areas.

THE SOLUTION

Don Benito’s Action Plan for the 2030 Urban Agenda follows the principles established by the Government of Spain and aligns with international frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals. An analysis of the key areas identifies the municipality’s weaknesses and opportunities. The Agenda proposes projects to address strategic challenges, including improving urban accessibility, promoting sustainable mobility, and revitalizing public spaces. Strengthening digital innovation in local administration is recommended to modernise public services and optimize resource management. Don Benito aims to become a more attractive city to live in, work and visit, enhancing both residents’ quality of life and environmental sustainability. Citizen participation is central to designing the plan. Khora organised sessions to gather the main population concerns and expectations, contributing to building a shared vision for an inclusive, dynamic and resilient Don Benito by 2030.
